  • The three main sustainability goals at Sam’s Club are (1) be supplied 100 percent by renewable energy, (2) create zero waste, and (3) sell products that sustain our environment and resources. To date, Sam’s Club has taken several steps to meet these goals including: - Placing an auxiliary power unit on each truck. The power unit turns on automatically after the truck idles for three minutes. The power unit supplies heat and air conditioning in the truck cab, so the engine can be turned off, which reduces carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. - Reclaiming waste by sandwiching shrink wrap, plastic and aluminum between layers of cardboard and bundling it together in bales. The bales are sent to certified processors for recycling. - Creating an electronic Recycling and Trade-in Program so members can turn in used electronics, such as iPods. –Installing a significant number of micro wind turbines mounted on parking lot light poles to support the energy needs of its Palmdale, Calif., location – the first retailer in the U.S. to do so.
