Co-Q10 and fish oil
What is coenzyme Q-10?
Coenzyme Q-10 is a powerful antioxidant which is produced by the human body, but that decreases with age. It is essential to the production of energy by every cell in the body and is concentrated in the human heart. Co Q-10 promotes healthy heart function. Because Co Q-10 facilitates the conversion of fats and sugars into energy, having sufficient levels is essential to virtually all tissues in the body.
Statin Drugs and Co Q-10
Co Q-10 levels in the body also decrease with the use of statin drug therapy (cholesterol-lowering drugs), which inhibits the body’s natural production of Co Q-10.

What are the Benefits of Fish Oil?
Fish oil is the richest available source of the unsaturated Omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA.
Supportive research shows that consumption of EPA and DHA Omega-3 fatty acids may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease.1 Omega-3 fatty acids promote heart, brain, and eye health. *
DHA is important for normal development of the brain and eye, and for healthy function of the central nervous system and vision throughout life. DHA is present in high concentrations where brain cells come together (synapses) to communicate with one another. Very high levels of DHA are also found in the retina, specifically in the rod outer segment membranes; healthy rods are very important for night vision. DHA and EPA help to form cell membranes throughout the body, including in cells lining blood vessels. EPA is used by the body to make eicosanoids, which act locally to regulate cell functions.
What is enteric fish oil and how much should I take?
Enteric fish oil softgels are formulated to release the fish oil in the small intestine instead of the stomach. Fishy odor and fishy aftertaste are controlled as a result.
Fish Oil is typically available in three strengths:
Regular strength (1000 mg of fish oil or 600 mg of concentrated fish oil)
is recommended for healthy, active adults and children who consume a moderate amount of fish each week. Regular strength fish oil generally contains 300 mg of omega-3 fatty acids.
Double strength (1200 mg of concentrated fish oil)
with twice the omega-3 in one softgel, is for adults who do not exercise regularly; adults who do not eat fish weekly; or adults who have some cardiovascular problems. Double strength fish oil generally contains 600 mg of omega-3 fatty acids.
Triple strength (1400 mg of concentrated fish oil)
with three times the omega-3 in one softgel, is for sedentary adults who do not consume fish on a weekly basis; or adults who are concerned about high blood pressure or heart health. Triple strength fish oil generally contains 900 mg of omega-3 fatty acids.
What does USP verified mean?
Look for the USP verification logo when buying fish oil. This means that the U.S. Pharmacopeia has tested and verified the ingredients, potency, and manufacturing process of the fish oil supplement. The U.S. Pharmacopeia sets official standards for dietary supplements.
