To make these cookies really spicy you can add fresh grated ginger and white pepper.
Ingredients
- 3 cup(s) all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 2 Tbsp. ground ginger
- 2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. ground cloves
- 1/2 cup(s) unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 2/3 cup(s) molasses
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1/2 cup(s) brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup(s) water
- 1 tsp. salt
Icing
- 1 cup(s) powdered sugar
- 2 Tbsp. water
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
Cooking Directions
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Sift flour, baking powder, ginger, cinnamon, cloves and salt.
- Cream together butter, sugar, molasses, vanilla and water.
- Add flour mixture to butter mixture.
- Form dough into a flat circle and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Roll out dough, cut into desired shapes and bake for 10 to 12 minutes.
- Mix together powdered sugar, water and vanilla for icing. Pour into a small resealable bag for an easy decorating bag.
