Tarentum Wal-Mart Supercenter and SAM’S CLUB Celebrate Grand Openings
Combined $69,000 in donations announced for local groups

TARENTUM, Pa., Jan. 24, 2006 – The new Wal-Mart Supercenter and SAM’S CLUB in Tarentum will celebrate grand openings on Tuesday, Jan. 31. The new store and Club will enter the market with a focus on serving its customers and Members in the community, and announcing an initial $69,000 in donations to local organizations. A grand opening celebration for the Wal-Mart Supercenter will be held at 7 a.m. with doors opening to the public at 7:30 a.m. The store is located at 2010 Village Center Drive. SAM’S CLUB, located at 2000 Village Center Drive, will celebrate its grand opening at 9:30 a.m.

A Focus on Community
With the goal of giving back locally, the new Tarentum Supercenter and SAM’S CLUB will provide community grants throughout the year to neighborhood organizations. “We are thrilled to be part of the Tarentum community,” said Wal-Mart Store Manager Michelle McMullen. “Our associates know this community and want to contribute to local organizations that make Tarentum a great place to live. We are excited to announce the recipients of our community grants prior to grand opening, including a surprise donation of $10,000 to one local group.”

In 2004, Wal-Mart Stores and SAM’S CLUB gave $5,645,093 to local causes and organizations in the communities they serve in the state of Pennsylvania. In addition, many charities and organizations received in-kind donations and additional funds raised through stores, CLUBS and distribution centers in the amount of $2,482,277, for a grand total of $8,127,370 contributed through Wal-Mart’s presence across the state.

Grand opening activities
Activities planned during both grand opening events include numerous product samples and give-aways. Franco Harris, former professional football player and Hall of Fame member, will make a special appearance at SAM’S
CLUB from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m.

Wal-Mart Supercenter features
According to McMullen, the new 203,855-square-foot Wal-Mart Supercenter features 36 general merchandise departments including apparel and accessories, fine jewelry, a lawn and garden center, health and beauty aids, and a full line of electronics. In addition, the store offers a bakery, a delicatessen, a frozen food section and meat, dairy and fresh produce sections. It will be open to customers 24 hours a day, seven days a week and will include 19 full-service and 11 express check-out lanes.

Other store features include: a Tire & Lube Express, a McDonald’s restaurant, a family fun center, a portrait studio, a one-hour photo lab, a vision center, a pharmacy with two drive-up lanes, a Smart Style hair salon and a Regal nail salon. In addition, the store will also feature a Wal-Mart Connect Center for wireless phone sales.

SAM’S CLUB features
SAM’S CLUB will feature several departments including: Tire and Batteries, one-hour photo, bakery, optical, café, floral, pharmacy, rotisserie, jewelry, frozen foods, fresh produce, choice meats and a gasoline station.

“We are in business for small business and businesses in Tarentum will play an integral part in our success,” said SAM’S CLUB General Manager Jason Clark. “The quality brand merchandise and additional benefits we offer help to ensure that small businesses in our community continue to thrive for years to come.”

The club provides a range of additional small business services and benefits that help entrepreneurs increase productivity and profitability, including:
• Gold Key hours that reserve the entire Club exclusively for business members to shop before normal operating hours.
• Business services, including payroll, insurance, and retirement planning that simplify administration and financial management tasks.
• Click ‘n’ Pull and Fax ‘n’ Pull is express ordering that allows members to order online at samsclub.com or place their orders via fax. Orders placed by 5 p.m. will be pulled and ready for pickup by 7 a.m. the following day. This added service provides members convenience and is used largely by business members as a time savings benefit.

575 New Jobs
The Wal-Mart Supercenter will employ approximately 425 associates. More than 1,400 people applied for jobs at the new store, according to McMullen. SAM’S CLUB received more than 1,800 applications for the 170 available jobs. The national average wage at Wal-Mart for full-time hourly associates is approximately $10.11 per hour.*
