Sam's Club welcomes South Jordan Community to Grand Opening Celebration

Opening includes visits from Stephanie Ashcraft and John Bytheway

BENTONVILLE, Ark., June 23, 2008 –Sam’s Club, a division of Walmart Stores Inc., will open a new facility at 11278 South Jordan Gateway, South Jordan, UT 84095. The new location marks the eighth Sam’s Club in Utah.

Grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremonies begin at 9:45 a.m., Thursday, July 10. Prior to Sam’s Club grand opening for the public, an exclusive tour for the news media is planned at 9:45 a.m., Tuesday, July 8, during which 4 local charities and community organizations will receive grants totaling $18,000.

The new South Jordan Sam’s Club will be one of the first facilities to begin food donations from opening day to America’s Second Harvest local affiliate Utah Food Bank Services. This will include providing protein from the meat and deli departments in addition to bakery goods. Other Sam’s Club locations in Utah are also participating after the recent completion of food donation a pilot program. Nate Call, food research manager for Utah Food Bank Services, will be on hand to answer any questions about the partnership and nationwide program led by Walmart Stores Inc. and the Walmart Foundation.

Wednesday, July 9 at 7:00 a.m. to noon, Business Members are invited to attend a breakfast and club preview. New and current business members will have opportunity to learn about fax-n-pullsm, Gold Key Hours and other services to help their businesses thrive.

Friday, July 11, Sam’ s Club will host local cookbook author Stephanie Ashcraft from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Ashcraft is best known for her cookbook series 101 Things to Do with…. Saturday, July 12, author John Bytheway is scheduled to appear from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to autograph his book Golf. Bytheway’s book and Ashcraft’s cookbooks will be available for purchase, and each author will be available for autographs and photos.

Everyone in South Jordan has been very supportive,” said Jeff Yarbrough, Club Manager. “We look forward to taking care of the community by providing high quality items at a great value, and by opening a new Club conveniently located for our Members and residents in South Jordan. I anticipate our Members will make use of our fresh department, bakery and will enjoy buying in bulk as well as saving time and gas by shopping for all their home and business needs at Sam’s Club.”

The new club has a host of sustainable features. The white TPO roof is energy star rated and includes 191 skylights. The interior lights automatically and continuously dim over the sales floor as the daylight contribution increases. The skylights will help save approximately 200,000 kilowatt hours per year.

Both Business and Advantage Members can save even more on club services and purchases with a Plus Membership, earning up to two percent cash back by using a Sam’s Club Discover card.

Regular Club hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.; and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Gold Key Hours for Business Members are 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday through Friday, and 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Saturday.
